The Rules
You get 5,000 words and 10 days, that's just 500 words a day to get you warmed up for NaNoWriMo.
You can take those 5,000 words and use them however you like to create some back story. Try and expose as many secrets as you can with those 5,000 words. These can be secrets that your characters later uncover. But remember the NaNoWriMo rules, this is all back story. You won't be able to use any of the words written here in your NaNoWriMo word count.
If you can't wait for this challenge to start you can write another 5,000 words now with the Preliminary Projects for NaNo-ites. Or if you want something a bit different try the fourth preparation challenge posted for SoCNoC: Paving the Way.
