Preliminary Projects for Nano-ites
Here's a challenge for all you writers who are going to go for NaNo this year: before you're allowed to start writing for the big 50 000, warm up your writing fingers and dive into your story's universe with a few short pieces of writing.

The Rules
1) The 5000 word goal is to be reached by completing five flash fiction stories of a thousand words each. These can be character studies, stories, period articles on an aspect of your world's history, letters between your characters; anything that you will be able to use later when you're floundering around in your NaNo novel and wondering exactly what shade of blue the deadly but desirable Leucipitus Rose is.
2) You aren't allowed to copy-paste your work from here into your NaNo novel - that's cheating! Anything you write for this has to relate to your novel indirectly - a reference piece, prequel, or deleted scene type of thing.
