I just thought I'd kick this forum off.
To be honest, I haven't had any publically recognised writing achievements, in fact, I've really only ever done one big thing in the writing sphere - that was NaNo last November. But since that's my only realy go at writing, I said to many people at the time that it was one of my proudest achievments. I ran the Auckland marathon a few years ago, but NaNo was a much bigger acheivement to me. Anyone else with a view on their own personal achievements? 02 Feb 2007 14:37:24

My personal writing/non-writing achievement:
1. While I was still in Canada, I published an article in a New Zealand martial arts magazine. It was published along-side some of my absolute favorite martial arts authors. I have yet to see the magazine. 2. wrote my nanowrimo novel 3. Ran a 1/2 marathon (with Andy by the way) 4. Got my black belt in karate 5. Got two university degrees (Electrical Engineering and Maths) 6. Exchanged emails with Robert Sawyer the week before he won the Hugo Award for best sci-fi novel. But that's more his achievement than my own. :-) Gee - is that it?! I have to get working! Hahaha! 02 Feb 2007 18:29:43 |

You've got 5 more things than me though (or maybe 4 if I add the marathon).

My writing achievements:
1. Did Nano (always on top of the list) 2. I wrote a short story for a (Future Problem Solving) Scenario Writing Competition two years ago, which was 2nd place nationally in the middle division (aka Year 7-10 level, I think). It was a fairly good achievement I guess, but the participants are what 0.001% of school students? So it wasn't a placing over a lot of people. We'll all be adding achievements as the challenges add up, soon enough ^_^ 02 Feb 2007 22:02:03 |

I've completed NaNo twice now and done lots of other writing things but one that I'm particularly proud of, though it's not well know, is that I have been published. Not for money but it a real life collection.
A short story of mine was published in Re-Draft 2000 by the Christchurch School for Young Writers. 03 Feb 2007 13:24:42

:-) Got a short story published in EditRed's first anthology! With contract and all the rest! (mind you, acceptance was in early 2006, with actual publication in Nov/Dec 2006). The only Kiwi among 20 damned good writers!

Wow, that's cool :-)
I found this link to the story anthology and I see you even have your own section over there - ThePenguin. It will be a pleasure you have you around here at KiwiWriters, so a warm welcome to you. 28 Mar 2007 19:53:46

Good stuff. My writing credits are non-fiction only, so I am a little green with envy.
I hope that you are less evil than the Penguin in Batman. ;-) 01 Apr 2007 18:13:14 |

No writing achievements, because I haven't done any. Except while doing a Dramatic Arts Course last year.My written assignments and history of theatre presentations were always entertaining to the tutors. One suggested I had a writing talent and made me write my own presentation for my Diploma in acting. It was called 'Dedications,' 12 poems and skits about special people in my life, then perform them in Drama to the public.

No published achievements except for a letter to the editor of the Southland Times.
Have completed three 90 - 120 minute screenplays. All considered by a NZ production company, but deemed too expensive to make, no budget, or wanted changes that would take away the original theme of the story. Even so, each time I finished a screenplay I felt a good sense of achievement. Now i just need to complete the others that are in various states of construction. 01 Jun 2008 21:15:17 |

You go for it Bob. I saw "Second hand Wedding" today. Loved it. Such a great story with kiwi quirkiness. Funny, but quite emotional because it felt real. No glamour pusses like Hollywood, big women, and small dogs. :) Great views of Wellington, and Paramata Beach.

Hmm...achievements. Last year I finally broke my decades-long (fiction) writer's block. I've done lots of other things that paid me money, but this was big in a more important way.

I've had numerous letters to the editors printed, but other than that
1. Gained my Queens Award in Girls Brigade 2. Had my son 3. Spent 11 years at the same job with the same company! 4. I live and breathe each day, 5. I actually get to write each day! 6. That I have dreams and goals which I am now following through. :o) 04 Jun 2008 07:56:00
