Member Challenges are up!!
You can create all sorts of types: Writing (words) ala NaNoWriMo, SoCNoC, Waitangi Weekend Word Wace and many more. Preparation (hours) used for any (or is that many) of the myriad of preparation tasks to precede writing. Research (hours) a slight difference from preparation this is all about learning and discovery. World Building (hours) applicable to any genre world building will enhance your story. Outline (scenes) planning out the wood before you plant the trees. Reading (pages) we all love books and so often don't read enough of them. Critique (pages) provide invaluable feedback to your peers and discover what you can learn for your own writing. Editing (hours) ala NaNoEdMo. Editing (pages) for when a measurement of hours just doesn't seem like progress enough. Finishing (things) added for The End Is Nigh. The Kiwi Writer Guide to Member Challenges will show you how. 15 Sep 2007 09:38:28

I've been out all day, just come on 4.15pm. what's going on?
Is anyone doing anything? I didn't want to start as I am not sure what's what. Hoping someone would have started so I can get the idea. :) 15 Sep 2007 16:41:23

Oh well, I've had a go. I have no idea of what I am doing, but am always up for a learning curve. Have spelt one word wrong, and decimation, my husband says means 1 out of ten, so could have used a better word.
Well done Admin crew, for setting it up, the only thing I had difficulty with was putting a dot between the date numbers instead of a slash. What would I do without my husbands help. We are a team! I muck it up, he fixes it. :) 15 Sep 2007 20:13:28

Well done Gaye, glad you've put up a challenge. It's certainly a bit of a morbid one eh! Tonight I've been watching "Band of Brothers" so that's been a bit sad too.
Oh, if you created the challenge gaye, you should accept it :-P (I've just fixed your spelling mistake and I've just re-formatted some of the rules, no other changes.) 15 Sep 2007 22:56:06

Thanks for the fix-up Andy, you're a honey! And for taking up the challenge, I've made a start while watching the rugby, done a page. All women, an elderly couple and kids in my shelter. :)

Big Woot @ Gaybe-belle. Well done for being the first. (And for simultaneously writing AND watching the rugby.)
Have accepted your challenge and am now busily dreaming up post-holocaust society. :) 16 Sep 2007 06:42:32 Quote:

Good for you slushpile. The old holocaust thing has been about for a while with films in the futuristic effect, it just come into my head at the time for some reason.
lthough my story is now, that missile lately from North Korea went amuk and pointed to the Pacific area. :) Just wanted to get something going that would suit both genders to get into. Hope we have some more challenges. 16 Sep 2007 11:41:01

An idea I recently had would fit really well into the holocaust scenario. But I must focus. Seeking Queen Praedar is calling and I must make progress!
Good luck to you all in the Survival of the Human Race. :) 16 Sep 2007 12:08:32

Yes kerryn, to quote, "no excuses, just write."
Read a book once called 'Down to the Sunless sea'. A passenger jet was in mid air from New York heading for London, they were informed that they could not land anywhere as the big blast had happened. Everything was wiped out at the International Airports, they needed fuel and managed to land at a surviving airport in the mediterrean. The radiation had not drifted that way because of the different air currents in the area, so far. They refuelled and resupplied and headed for the Antarctic, to Scott Base where there were underground shelters and food supplies. The group survived for a few months, where the air was unpolluted, until they noticed the ice was melting rapidly. It appeared that through the blast, earth was titled off its axis. The antarctic had become a hot tropical island, where the ice will eventually melt, and everything and everyone would dissolve into the sea. Scary huh, it could happen! 16 Sep 2007 13:04:59

Yeah very scary.
I read the challenge, I had an idea... I want to write! Lol but I have two assignments that need to be done this week *tries not to get frustrated* I've written the idea down though, and if I get time... I'm certainly accepting the challenge! 16 Sep 2007 14:57:54 |

You get on with your studying cassie, I touched on psychology once with a Social Services course, and couldn't get my head around it (pardon the pun) Not good marks at all and doing Human Development as well I mixed it up with.
My husband is a tutor and is setting exams at present for his poor students. :) 16 Sep 2007 15:30:15

Sounds interesting, but, like Kerryn, I'm full on editing (and will keep on with that up to and through nano)
The antarctic is solid land under the ice, with possible seeds locked under the ice for tens of thousands of years, I'd love to see what sprang up in the millenial spring. Actually, that's a good title.. that's an interesting concept... hmm. 16 Sep 2007 21:07:32

Well I'm going to start up a garden nursery then, when the ice is gone. I have property rights, my Uncle was an Antarctic explorer, a base is named after him (Mawson) but he turned Australian. Still must check out his will.
Someone told me once the Lost City of Atlantis is buried under the Antarctic. 16 Sep 2007 23:09:57

How are you going Andy? I for some reason have my group in Stewart Island. I have just realised I know little about the place, so had to research distances and such. It's only about 30kms across the water from where I live.
Do you know the Island is 64kms in length, and 40km at its widest? Population is 600, but that is mostly in Oban, my lot are down in the south East, Pegasus Cove. Strange how the mind settles itself in a particular spot. It is such a disregarded place in NZ people forget we have three islands, so I am going to have the two mainlands sink, Stewart Island sits on a higher plate and remains. A few Maori families survive, the Island reverts back to its Maori name, Rakiura (place of glowing skies) this is what remains of NZ containing a Maori colony once again. 17 Sep 2007 22:25:33
