Its called Pussy Footing Around challenge. I will be using this challenge to get a few new chapters done in my magic meow mystery. 05 Dec 2007 09:45:56

Hi Xengab,
Would you mind awefully if I joined the challenge but it didn't have a cat in it. I mean, I just need something to force me to finish my NaNoNovel. I could do with an extra 5,000 words. P.S. I just edited your above post so that it links directly to the challenge itself :-) 05 Dec 2007 22:46:25

Sure, feel free to join in anyway you wish. Just need some motivation to get things done before christmas.
Just figured dogs have been done wayyyy to much and it was time for some kitty kick butt stories..LOL I realllly need to sit down and plot out a time line for my mystery. AND the person who did it has now changed and its more then likely is going to be a fantasy mystery..HA! Its very hard to write a mystery where the person who done it, isnt known by the author.. I really put it down to the fact that I hate finding out those things in a normal book so wont spoil it for myself. Kinda annoying so I will need to work that out over the weekend and do the challenge. Also I chose a week due to the time of year, people actually being social and dont need the stress of a weekend write fest. 06 Dec 2007 06:48:59

I'll join you xengab, out of my five cats, I've decided on the runt of the litter to be my MC, naturally he is called 'Runty.' A hard shot that puts the blame on the dogs, but uses them for his own purposes. :)

Hehe. I just registered and noticed an upcoming challenge so of course I'll try it.
Hmm. I haven't read any Kiwi Writers guides or FAQs yet so I'd like to ask that should I write it in English or am I allowed to use my native language? Good luck to the challenge! :-) 07 Dec 2007 12:31:02 |

I would say write it in whichever you want to! If it's easier to write in your native language then go with that.
What is your native language out of curiosity? And do you find you write differently in each of the languages? 07 Dec 2007 14:51:16 |

Commonly I write in Finnish which is my native language. Finnish words are usually longer than English words, and in Finnish the little words like a, the, in, of etc are suffix endings so they won't affect the word count and therefore the goal is little harder to reach. :P
But however I think I'm better in Finnish than in English and writing in Finnish is easier and faster. I think that I can write something also in Spanish and Swedish and Anglo-Saxon, but they would be even harder languages than English. :P (Hehe, a nice challenge would be something like "write your text in a language you have never written before." :D) 08 Dec 2007 01:27:59 |

Write in whatever language you wish to.
Our challenges are more to get you thinking and writing then about the word count. Plus its fun to write with friends or would you prefer Finnish? 08 Dec 2007 07:33:11

Europeans are so clever they know at least four to five languages.
Most of us in NZ only know English, perhaps a little school French and a splattering of Maori. It certainly would be a challenge to write in a different language, for me anyway, not knowing any other. :) 08 Dec 2007 17:16:12

How are the Pussy Footers going?
I started off with a flourish, just introducing my MC's siblings and other species he has to rival with. However, come to a halt due to glorious weather, so been outside, eventually someone will end up with egg on their face. :) 10 Dec 2007 12:03:41

My cat's name is Cat and its living in a cooking pot somewhere in Catville. So it is Catvillish cooking pot of Catville's cat, Cat from Catville. Or in Finnish, Kattilan kattilan katti Katti Kattilalainen, so my tale is just playing with funny words. :P

Ha ha, that's cool!
We have a town in NZ called Kati Kati, it's a Maori name. I wish I could get away from factual. My MC has just spewed up something horrible on the carpet at present, so he's not very popular. I told him he will not be the star of my story if he didn't get outside! 11 Dec 2007 12:37:27

Cyrus my lead MC is doing well, Darius the second lead MC is still recovering from surgery. Note to cats, just because you see a street magician eating needles and pulling them out his bell button does not mean a cat can do the same.. :)
Sleeping in plastic bags is not smart either *eyes my kitty xena for doing that today*. Sniffing the glass pannel just after the gas fire is turned off will curl your whiskers..*stupid gabby cat will never learn* I'm doing ok with this just taking ages as I just remember to do my christmas cards AND remembered to buy hubby his present. Nephews also lucked out that I was able to send presents that will arrived bofore christmas in Aussie land. Have a mentioned I hate christmas? GO roast your chestnuts over someone else's fire buddy! *snickers* I have issues with waiting to open presents I do not know whats in them. Just tell me what you're giving me so I can look forward to it PLEASE! I do hate surprises that happen outside of books.. 11 Dec 2007 18:29:32

Your cats are definitely inquisitive xengab :)
"Runty" has discovered how to suck hen's eggs like a rat, and therefore will not be blamed. Now he has to work out how to get rid of those bantam roosters, there's only room for one tough little guy in this household. :) Ha I feel the same about Christmas, maybe I've celebrated too many. I refuse to get caught up in the hype and stress involved, and the eating too much, that caused constipation for a week. :) I did make a Christmas cake for my husband which he loves, forgot to put the eggs in it. Otherwise if he wants a Christmas feast, he buys it and I'll cook it. Alternatively a BBQ in the sun. :) 11 Dec 2007 19:19:23

Xena my lovely muse decided she wanted hubbys present. Peanut Brittle.
I had hidden it away in my pj drawer and did not think much about it until I came into the room and found her half in the drawer trying to nibble the plastic off the box! I had forgotten this kitty could open things like that. Thankfully she had not gotten any of the plastic off and hubby will not know what happened to it. It is now hidden up high where she cannot get to it. She is afriad of heights (yes a cat that freaks out if up higher then the back of a chair) and she has muscle damage so cannot jump higher then a a meter. My story has stalled once again and I hope to get something thought up tonight *sighs*. How is everyone else going? 12 Dec 2007 09:47:35

xena won't get a present if she's naughty, tell her. I'm going to miss my old Shepherd this Christmas, she would open her own present from under the tree, when we told her which was hers. Sadly she passed away last Boxing Day. This year we have a 9month old Shepherd pup and Luke, a young waif from the SPCA, I am not having a tree with them around. ):
Well done on completing your challenge. I shall have to get onto mine in the evenings left, have a funeral to attend, feeling her loss at the moment. Then its Graduation Day tomorrow, going along to support some mates. Hard to believe it's a year ago when it was my turn. Runty has caught the second rooster, with one to go, while Luke the dog is burying them for him. In the meantime who is eating the hen's eggs? Alice thinks its rats and stoats, while Andrew is bitching about buying food for the hens and having to buy eggs as well. :) 13 Dec 2007 13:22:42

Aw bum! because of so much going on, plus going out for husbands birthday dinner tonight, cut it short to finish 'Pussy Footing Around'. Finally at 10pm Friday 14th. with 5078 words. The challenge must have finished at 7pm and I assumed it was midnight.
Oh well at least I know I've completed it. Strange little story too. 14 Dec 2007 22:17:39

Since it is still only friday lunchtime for me then I think everyone still has time to get it done :)
Just love how you have Runty..LOL its the nickname my husband uses for my other cat Gabby since she is the runt and thankgod for that. 8lb of cat is plenty when being used as a race track finish line. Did I mention Xena has a kitty cold atm? Well due to that she allowed inside during the day (otherwise she lives on the balcony in her cat kennel which she loves btw)when we arent at home. All she has done is hunt for brittle or sleep in bed feet under the covers and head on my pillow..LOL She is getting alot better so I wont complain and she does look so cute. I can always tell when she is acutally sick since she will sit or snuggle up with Gabby. She has been known to fake a sneeze to get things her way.. SO who is going to issue the next challenge?????? Go on make my day! 15 Dec 2007 09:34:12

At the end of my story it quoted, size doesn't count when the action is needed.
His caregiver thought rats or stoats were pinching the eggs, and maybe Trevor next door shot the bantam roosters. In fact Runty was caught catching the last of the three roosters that got in the house, precious objects, ornaments went flying in the process. On burying the rooster his caregiver dug up two others that Runty had little time for and got the dog Luke to bury them. Then she found Runty in the henhouse (he was small enough to get in the hen hole) and was found pawing under a big fat red hen to get an egg out. Turning around there was Luke standing there with the yellow yolk of egg on his chin and half an eggshell stuck to his nose. (this actually happened.) All in all it was quite a day! Challenge... I shall try to come up with a short Christmassy one. 15 Dec 2007 17:02:20
