Hi Everyone,

Our first site challenge of the New Year arrives pretty early. The New Year Novella Challenge is up ready and waiting for your acceptance.

December's break from writing and recharging the batteries has been a welcome change from the madness that was NaNoWriMo but now it's time to get back into writing.

Good luck everyone!

Hehe, it's not my challenge, it's a sitewide challenge. I can't remember who had the idea (I think it was on a forum much earlier this year) but I know it was a group effort somewhere, maybe an internal KW meeting.

This is part of the sitewide ones we do regularly throughout the year. We love the members challenges but we know that when we have sitewide ones, there are usually more participants - which always makes it more fun.

They're both good in their own little ways :-)

Count me in as well. Yay for site challenges!
The idea definitely arose from KW staff discussion in some form or another and I think it's a great way to get back into gear for the new year!
I haven't ever written anything novella length so I think this will be an interesting process - any ideas on how to find an idea that will run past 20K but not as far as 50K? lol

Sure, I'm game, says the author with far too much on his plate ... thats 10 days to think of an idea. Plenty of time ...

I think if you come up with a novel idea, and slam it into 20k, you'll find you have plenty to write about.

Anyone mind if I use this challenge to finally (I hope) finish my Magic Meow mystery NaNO?
20K should get it nearly done if I dont change my mind midway through (again).

xengab, that sounds perfectly reasonable to me!

I'm going to try and start one from scratch since, like cassie, I've never done a novella before. Should be fun. I'm hoping to get a good number of words out of the way on the 1st/2nd :-)

Still haven't got an idea yet. Now is the time for me to day-dream for a few days when I'm sure I'll come up with something. That's when all my ideas happen, just day-dreaming and they randomly pop into my head.

oooh I don't know cassie. Intending to paint the house, and spending time with the dearly beloved while he's on holiday. He's talking about day trips to Dunedin, and gearing up with a model railway, needing my creative expertise for the scenery :)
I suppose I could fit in $20,000 words but would like to do something totally different, like you. Not committing yet.

I'm all geared up! I was gonna ask the question cassie asked, that is, where is everyone at?

I'm stupidly squeezing in another 3k chapter on an ongoing fanfic series before new years, so going into the novella fairly raw, but I have half a clue what I'm gonna write.

Half a clue is better than no clue at all :-)
I have several ideas floating around... and I am not sure which direction I'll be headed in at this point. I thought I knew, now I don't... exciting though, lol I am sure I'll have something pinned down a little more by the time the 1st rolls around.

ACK! Someone had to mention fanfic..I have started one hrmm ages ago just before the last Harry Potter book came out and I still need to finish it.
Maybe rather then torment more cats I should just knuckle down and do the fanfic.
But I also got this idea about a gnome dective that starts out with Gnome, Ruddy Gnome..LOL
Too many ideas so little time.
So someone just tell me:
A) fanfic
B) finish NaNO Magic Meow Mystery
C) Ruddy Gnome or
D) something totally different.

Wow, I've been so mad recently, I haven't really even thought about it yet.

Now's the time to get my thinking cap on. I'll definately get something before the 1st though - then I'll be away :-)

Okay, I have an idea now (and not a jot too soon) though I don't have a title yet.

It's going to be about a set of three cats who prowl in the night time getting up to all kinds of mischief. Of course, their problems start because a new cat has moved into their space!

That's about as far as I have got. I do know the setting though, so that helps.

That is a good start! lol I'm still debating and I am running out of hours.... ah well, thats half the fun!! I have a couple ideas which I could go on, but will probably wait and see what decides to come out when the clock rolls around and 2008 shows its face.
YAY!!! bring it on 2008!

Seems the kitty plot lines are catching :)
Still teettering on the line of fanfic or Magic Meow. My muse keeps telling me Magic Meow, but she would since she is a cat.

Is that Xena or Gabbie?
If I do take the challenge I'm thinking on the lines, that Dinosaurs never became extinct, they evolved with the rest of the world.
However they are getting mighty p*ssed at the way Humans are treating them. :)

Xena is my muse:) Gab's just not the thinking kinda cat. Though they were both very cute lastnight playing tag through the appartment, theyd slap each other on the tail or leg and then run away. Went on for about an hour until Xena got too tired. I was surprised since that kind of behaviour usually leads to a big cat fight.

I like the dinosaur idea, the world would be so different.
