The NZ Book Council has a brochure out for their events from 13 Feb - 20 June 2007.

I plan to go to two:

Reading into the Paste
Jeanne Kalogridis, Posie Graeme-Evans & Deborah Challinor.
19 April, 6-7pm, Thorndon, $16 (non-book council members)

Something from Nothing
How does the creative process work and what does it mean to be an artist in New Zealand?
20 June, 6-7pm, Thorndon, $16 (non-book council members)

Another I thought was interesting:

An Hour with Bill Bryson
20 Feb, 12-1pm, Wakefield St - Wellington, $16 (non-book council members)

Hey Kerryn, do you know of where we can pick one of these brochure's up from?

I like the idea of meeting Bill Bryson :-)

They are available at Dymocks. I found my near the Information desk. You can also check out the NZ Book Council website.

I've just booked a ticket to go to the Bill Bryson one :-)

Anyone else thinking of going?

Hey everyone,

The Bill Bryson event was today and it was amazing. Honestly, if any of you get a chance to go and meet him, get a book signed or go to an event like this (in Chch or Auk), you should go.

He's a really nice guy and I got a book signed to. See my review here: An Hour With Bill Bryson

Wow, that sounded great. I've yet to read one of Bill Bryson's books, but I shall definitely look out for him ^_^

I highly recommend "Mother Tongue" - very funny book about the English language. Some great bits in that that make you realize just how odd the language really is, but just how fantastic too.

I've read a few of his travel ones, but am really looking forward to reading "A Short History of Nearly Everything". It looks like it will be funny as well as informative - like Travis said about "Mother Tongue".

A friend of mine (Ange) has read "A Short History of Nearly Everything" and the pieces she was quoting to me were very funny!

I've book in for the Something from Nothing event but the Reading into the Past event has been pulled. :( I was really looking forward to seeing / hearing Deborah Challinor.

Kerryn, that's a shame Reading into the Paste got pulled. Be sure to let us know what Something from Nothing is like (even if it does seem an age away).

I can't decide what sounds more interesting:

reading into the past

or

reading into the paste (andy's version)

Hah, I think that's funny - I didn't realise, but the funny thing is, it looks like I copied and pasted Kerryn's post (go see for yourself)!

What do they call that - something that is what it describes?

Now I might start saying copy and past!!!

True! I never saw it in the bit that Kerryn wrote, only yours Andy, but I guess it was actually Kerryn's mistake, not yours after all.
