Just found this article in the local paper.
Richard Thomas visited south this month to scope out possible writers to create a series of half hour dramas to be filmed for television. The only stipulations for the drama is that it must be contemporary, filmed in one place, with four or fewer characters and must feature a table. Any sort of table; dining, restaurant, pool, operating table just let your imagination go! Due 1st February, 2008. If interested the web site is www.tableplays.org.nz 30 Nov 2007 12:28:33

Just finished doing a script for this. Have read plenty of scripts and acted them out, but have never written one before.
Now I have to write a page or two about it and another page of the script. It's very confining keeping your actors at one spot. Is there such a thing as Pathos/Humour for a genre? 23 Jan 2008 23:01:35

Well I've submitted my piece. Three scripts will be chosen from certain areas in NZ, including Invercargill. Let's hope I am one of the three chosen.
If not it will be good experience. It was a bit of a scriptfrenzy trying to send it off via e mail (the only address) with xtra playing up lately. The producer sent word back to say he was looking forward to reading it. :) 30 Jan 2008 20:55:20

You have to have a go. My first attempt at scriptwriting.
Had to be in by 1st February, first drafts in March. Think they are filmed on local and Maori TV in June. 31 Jan 2008 10:45:34

Confirmation of my entry has been accepted. Wait till next week for their decision on whose scripts pass through to the final three.
They even pay a small sum for accepted entries. The icing on the cake. :) 13 Feb 2008 22:35:40

Oh well, rejected. (:
'My script had merit', according to the producer, 'but other ideas/subjects he preferred'. Would help to know what he preferred in the first place. Waiting for a job application rejection now to 'make my day.' 22 Feb 2008 12:31:18

Aw, that he mentioned it had merit is a good thing though, could simply be that it wasn't quite was he was looking for this time around. Same as with novels and short stories - can be nothing wrong with the story, just not what was wanted at the time.
I hope there is better news on the job app front. Am applying for jobs as well at the moment and meeting a lot of rejection, not the most fun thing in the world thats for sure. 22 Feb 2008 15:35:35 |

My script was based on an older couple, and TV seems to aim at young ones. Though I don't think they would watch half hour plays, morelikely pop in a video.
Job front, heard nothing. Hours suited, working in an art gallery. Only one consolation the lady before me having an interview was actually OLDER than me. 22 Feb 2008 21:55:08
