Submissions to the BNZ Katherine Mansfield Awards are open until 30 June for New Zealanders.
http://bnz.co.nz/About_Us/1,1184,3-34-482,FF.html?pmarkC=Image&pmarkK=1423HPS2KMAwards070518 Submissions can be made to three categories: (a) Premier category - min 1000 words, max 5000 words (b) Novice Writer category - min 1000 words, max 3000 words (c) Young Writer category - min 750 words, max 2000 words. I read through the entry criteria and this struck me as odd: "All entries must be submitted under a pen-name (alias). The pen-name only must appear on the manuscript. Entries will not be accepted if the entrantâs given name appears on the manuscript (including where the entrant’s name forms all or part of the document's file name if being submitted electronically)." If anyone can shed some light on why this is and what one might use as an alias that would be helpful. :) 03 May 2008 23:59:57

The reason will be so they can be judged anonymously, but the pen name does seem a little odd, I agree - normally you'd only put the title on the work and your name on a separate sheet of paper .
As for what to choose - I guess whatever you want. A middle name and grandparent's surname could be an easy starting point. 04 May 2008 11:22:27 |

Thanks ptero. I thought it was probably because of the anonymous thing but, like you say, I thought they would use titles.
Great suggestion for an alias! 04 May 2008 13:08:53

Or you could use your pornstar name, which is usually your first pet's name and the street you first lived in.
I'd be Tuesday Gorse. 23 May 2008 01:01:56 |
