Greetings one and all, I'm Jess.
I live in Wellington, though I'm originally from the US. (I moved to NZ 18 years ago when I was 13, so I pretty much consider myself to be a kiwi now.) I've got a couple (unpublished) novels under my belt and am currently working on my third - longhand! (I'm a pen nerd - I can't have enough cool fountain pens or nice rollerballs. Notebooks too.) I don't usually go in for the 'group writing thing' but had so much fun doing NaNoWriMo with a couple colleagues from work that I thought it might be cool to join a writing group - so here I am! So... (looks around) Where's the best place for a newb to hit the ground running around here? Are there any challenges coming up? 16 Apr 2008 15:04:21 |

Hi Jess, welcome. You will enjoy this site, folk are friendly, helpful but not intrusive.
We often have challenges, one at present is to publish your work within this year. Press on challenges above then to site challenge on the left. At present scriptfrenzy is on the go for this month, and in June the big Socnoc challenge writing a novel for the month 50,000 words. Wander about the forums, for a chat or anything else that catches your eye. Resources are helpful and Kerryn's blog writing is always worth reading. :) 17 Apr 2008 17:04:38

Hi Jess! Another Wellingtonian! You'll have to try come out to the monthly meet this Sunday. Details are posted in the General Chat forum.
I love notebooks too. I used to have a big thing for pens but I just don't write longhand enough any more. What genres do you write? And read? And thanks, gaye-belle, for pimping my blog! 17 Apr 2008 20:04:50

Hi Kerryn! We met (met? whatever you call it when it happens online) through Jo Chapman during NaNo last year...
Thanks for all the tips gaye-belle, I'll have a wander. (oh, I tried to select the link for http://kiwiwriters.org/my/challenge/member/publish-a-book-2008.html and it produced a system error. oops!) 18 Apr 2008 11:14:50 |

jnickelsen, I just remembered the publish a book challenge is under 'Members Challenge' and not the 'Site Challenge'. So try again Challenges up above then Members Challenge at the left hand side. Then click on 'read more.'

Hi! Oh yeah! That's so cool. I'm glad you all had a fun time with NaNo. :)
P.S. I tried the link and it worked ok for me. 18 Apr 2008 21:08:10
