Hello,
I found your group through a link from some other group somewhere, not even sure how. But this group/site sounds good and I'd like to give it a try. I've been writing as a hobby for years, and on and off the internet over the last few years. I'm thinking of trying the writing a novel in June challenge (don't have the name in front of me). I like to write about people and social issues I guess. I like to write about people who "fall between the cracks"; who don't quite fit into our world due to pressures of society, and the problems they then have. I come from Melbourne, yep - Australia. But unlike some strange Aussies, I don't have any of those ridiculous attitudes where they pretend they are better than NZers. I like NZers and am happy to be your near neighbours. I am married and have a couple of kids and work part time with disengaged high school kids, which keeps me pretty busy. I home school my 16 year old daughter, and my 10 year old son is mildly autistic. Well, both of those keep me pretty busy too. (grin) Hope to get to know more of you. bye Eirene 03 May 2008 16:09:07 |

Hi Eirene
Welcome! I hope you do sign up for the Southern Cross Novel Challenge (SoCNoC) in June. It's when it really goes off around here. :) What's the latest thing you've written? It sounds like you've got an interesting niche that you write about. Kerryn 03 May 2008 18:48:24 |

Hiya eirene, glad to hear you're happy hanging out with us NZers (well actually, I'm English but I've been here in Wgtn now).
I agree with Kerryn, your ideas about the people slipping through the cracks sounds pretty cool. Have fun on the site and happy writing. 04 May 2008 00:30:01

Hi eirene, welcome to the site. I'm sure you will enjoy the friendly helpful folk on here.
I like to write about people and social issues as well, I guess it's because I've been around a while and studied people and their 'quirks.' You sound like a busy lady, as the saying goes, 'ask a busy person if you want something done,' so I am sure you will be able to fit in the odd 50.000 words in our Socnoc challenge in June. I tend to think of Aussies as our cuzzies, so hi cuzzie. :) 04 May 2008 19:33:18

Thanks everyone for your welcome. so sorry I took so long to reply. Things have been involved here, with my mother-in-law being ill and now passing away. we have the funeral next week, so that'll be a problem for the socnoc.
And I wonder if I can find out easily by asking you lot, rather than searching in the rules - are the socnoc stories meant to have no sex - meaning suitable for under 18s as well, or can we put a bit of adult stuff in if the story needs it? Eirene 31 May 2008 21:41:25 |

So sorry about your mother in law.
I don't think there would be restrictions, as nobody gets to read your story from this site, unless you post some excerpts. You don't send in your story, just keep count of your words until you reach 50.000 words or more. :) 31 May 2008 21:56:44

you can write whatever you want to :-) It's your novel so you can take your story wherever it wants to go. As it's not posted up or public there's no need to keep it suitable for all ages.
Very sorry to hear about your loss, it must have been a rough couple of weeks and I hope you are doing ok with it all. *hugs* 31 May 2008 21:58:54 |

Thanks for the info Gaye-belle and Cassie. I thought we did post the writing - but I've never done anything like this before. Ok, then I can go for it <g>
Not that I'll be writing erotica or it's unartistic equivalent, but more the gritty realism (with a few lighter moments of fun <g>). Thanks also Cassie for your thoughts. I'm actually looking forward to the funeral to get it over with, for closure I guess is the term. My own father died last year, so while it's more of the same at least I know what it's all about now.
