And, yes, I had to use the word "thingy" because I didn't know what else to call it.
But, yes, the HQ was nice enough to provide us a space for those outside of the actual Kiwi world. (That's New Zealand and those around it, BTW.) We are proud to say that we are taking time out of our very busy summers to actually do this, which would actually make us very dedicated writers who would possibly hope to become famous one day. I'll see how I can get this up and running a little more smoothly, but first we need some participation from those of us who are out there.... 23 May 2007 01:24:32

I'm originally from Canada (now living in New Zealand), so I feel that I can post in here too.

YaY!
Travis, when did you get that sig? And, why do you have great respect for mantises? 24 May 2007 01:22:58

I got the sig on the weekend.
I was having dinner with some kiwiwriters friends, and I discussed a friend of mine who is a flight attendant referring to economy class on an airplane as "praying mantis class". Then, I said, "I have great respect for the praying mantis." This generated discussion. I learned about praying mantises from a biology friend at university who raised a bunch of them in his dorm room. I then proceeded to do a praying mantis imitation based on some of their very cool behavior. 24 May 2007 11:27:26 |

Travis, your praying mantis impression was hilarious. I still have the action etched into my brain.
Oopse, sorry to post here - I'm not in North America but I have been there 3 times :-) Don't mind me. 24 May 2007 22:41:18

Im an aussie, living in California.
And yup my summer will be busy, my work is moving buildings AND one of the libraries is moving to a bigger place. I have to oversee the new libraries brand new stored books as well as the processing supplies for our other 17 libraries. I somehow have to order enough stuff to get us through a month or two of chao's and packages going missing and not have too many supplies to move to the new place.. Yup, makes no sense. June is the only month I will be able to write during lunch, and not feel like I should be doing something else. I live in Monterey County and I dislike sea lions! Oh and I am a huge Alan Rickman fan :) 25 May 2007 08:05:30
My idea of hell is being trapped in a room with no books!

And did you learn, Travis, that female praying mantis-es (because I don't know if it's right or not) eat their mates. Maybe we humans should learn from them...*licks lips*
And, anyway...Andy, we won't bite. (And that's slyly said after me licking my lips and threatening to eat my--um--"mates".) Have you ever visited North America? And, no, the REAL ONE, not just here at the forums. LoL 25 May 2007 11:12:38

I did know that - good on them, those female praying mantises! I'm hopeful that you are just joking - still, most men would last quite a while in the freezer - food for how long? A month or two I imagine! ;-)
This sounds like a good starting point for a story I think - Mantis Woman From Mars 25 May 2007 18:41:15 |

And the sequal could be The Dead Mantis Man From Mars.

Ooh, hello everyone! I'm in Arkansas, but I figure I could go for a June version of NaNo. That, and I'm also doing Script Frenzy. I think. >_>
Sorry to intrude on the Mantis conversation. I'm tempted to say something about Scyther, but that's my inner pokemon trainer speaking. ^^; 28 May 2007 19:26:34 |

I just have to post on here because I too was present when the praying mantis thing was begun at dinner the other night.
Jessi, you've just taken it to the next level. Hilarious! If disturbing.... 29 May 2007 10:36:24

*wanders into thread*
We don't have any praying mantis up here in North Idaho. Hmmm, I take that back, I do remember finding one on our porch when I was a kid. But it looked rather lost and nearly dead. It bit me if I remember correctly. Never seen one since though. Anyway. I'm signed up for the SoCNoC. I have a story partly planned out that I was going to use for NaNo '07, but my impatience has won out so I'm writing it in June instead of November. I never wanted to be sane again anyway :P 29 May 2007 11:41:52
Lost my mind, gone to find it...if I come back before I return keep me here.

Morel - just the kind of people we want aboard - welcome!
Anshin - another US person, which is great to see! I don't know Pokemon very well, I'm very much an amateur I'm afraid. There are a couple of people doing both script frenzy and SoCNoC - should be interesting to see how it all goes. I'm very much waiting to see how the novel goes before committing to anything. 29 May 2007 14:06:28 |

Cottreau--huzzah! Which region of the states are you in?
Also, for the record, I talked my brother into doing Script Frenzy with me, so that kind of lightens the load of doing both. XD Kind of. 29 May 2007 17:03:24 |

I'm not - I'm in New Zealand, but I am from Canada (Nova Scotia), so I can post in the "North America" forums. :)
Talked your brother into it - that's a cool idea. I should start chatting with my brother. He's further away and it's harder to convince people from here to there than if you are in person. Still - he read my Nano novel, so he's slightly invested. 29 May 2007 17:12:55 |

Also, Travis just happens to be a big-wig here at kiwiwriters, and I just haven't had the heart to kick him out.
But, anyways, welcome to everyone new. (I think there are only two of you, but anyway...) I'm Jessi, the crazy one of the entire family. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me...or contact the big-wigs on the Contact page, or, if you don't mind going to visit the "rest of the world," you can post in the help forum there. So, basically, all I want to say is that yeah, I'm crazy, but I won't bite...too hard. See you around! 30 May 2007 01:30:56
