At the start of NaNo, I decided I wanted a children's novel but by the end it turned to be for a slightly older audience.
For wwwW, I want to do another Children's book but this time keep it so (like Jane, but without magic). In the previous novel, I had 5 kids in a society called "Special Division" and in some ways, I'd like to base it on them again. This way I can develop the characters a bit more. So, in the same area as Roald Dahl (but not in the same area as Scooby Doo), any ideas of adventures these kids can have? 27 Jan 2007 22:56:47

There is this hermit like neighbour of their's when they go on summer holiday to their cottage.
He almost never comes out and they only see his shadow in the upstairs window. Then, there's a crime in the area and they all suspect him. They give him a cool name like "the owl" or "the hermit" or "the monk" and chat about him all the time. It's up to you whether he's guilty of anything or not. 27 Jan 2007 23:37:10 |

That sounds like a right children's novel.
As time goes on, they find more things out about old man Mr Hart. They suspect him - at first - but as they get to know him, they realise he's on their side. He helps them solve the crime. I'll certainly do a variation on this I think. Any other ideas? 28 Jan 2007 20:04:10

Surely, it's only a crime in their eyes. Their parents are oblivious to the importance of what's going on.... but old man Mr Hart....

What about... one of the kids gets sent off to boarding school for 6 months and the remaining four are upset and go off on an adventure to 'rescue' the other kid? catching trains and camping out and the like?

Mr. Hart - nice once.
The original idea comes from a French Novel I read yonks ago called "Le jardinier du hibou". Translated, this means "The Owl's Gardener". I remember the hermit, and he has a gardener. There were these kids (all the same family) who visit and have an adventure. So, it's kind of a stolen idea, but I honestly don't remember anything else. I THINK there was a real crime, and the kids were all precocious. We could make it a time travel story - yeah - and he's a time hermit - yeah... :-) 30 Jan 2007 09:39:58 |

A time hermit you say?
Sounds interesting...he harbours time, in fact, he steals it and hides it away from everyone. Like a black hole, but the time hermit swallows time and light as well. We're getting into the realm of the bizarre... 30 Jan 2007 23:20:29
