I'm probably not going to be using previous nanovels for this challenge (it'll take too long to cut all the padding and mending all the plotholes, I won't be able to complete the challenge on time XD), so... I'm starting from scratch as of Jan 2008. I have... 19 words. XD
What about everyone else? 02 Jan 2008 12:52:17 |

I'm using my very first nano novel ('06) - it's been a year since I last read it or looked at it, so I have plenty of distance from it now, feel really ready to get in there and edit/do rewrites where needed.
Holding off on that until after my wedding in Feb though, I have the Novella to complete this month as well as the first draft of the 07 Nano. 02 Jan 2008 13:17:12 |

Using the teen novel I wrote next year. I feel I'm cheating in this challenge because it's written, edited and almost packed and ready to submit. Just need to write up the summary, and send it in!
I'll use socnoc to write another novel which I'll try somewhere overseas to get published. 02 Jan 2008 13:34:00 |

angeldreams, I think that is still totally achievable. You just have to write it NaNo-style. :)
I'm using my latest NaNovel, Freeing the Flame, from last year. I'm not planning on starting to rewrite it until February to give myself a further break from it. Cassie, I'm planning to have Freeing the Flame out there on submission before my wedding in October. Hopefully it will be out there by June/July. maui-potiki, I think the idea of this challenge is to get to the end result, no matter where you are along the way. 02 Jan 2008 19:21:23
No Excuses. Just Write.

I totally agree with you Kerryn :-) it's just about getting out there and doing it wherever you may be in the process.
I'm so excited to see how everyone does on this challenge, I think we're all pretty brave just for accepting it! 02 Jan 2008 19:33:28 |

I haven't started any writing on this yet. Although have been checking out how to set up your manuscript from the resource site. Being a new thing for me.
Getting the formatting formalities in order first. :) 02 Jan 2008 22:22:42

Once I finish off last year's nano, I'll be starting a new story from scratch. As my 2007 goal was to write a semi-coherent narrative from begining to end, my 2008 is to write a better story from beginning to end. And if I can do that ...

Oooh, weddings for both Cassie and Kerryn this year? Congrats!!
I agree with Kerryn. Maui-potiki, don't worry, I think after acceptance you still have to go through edits and proofreading stages with the publishers. I think. So don't think you have it easy, you still have a lot of work to do this year! ;) Cassie, I think we're all brave too, I really hope we will all be able to win the challenge or at least make significant, SIGNIFICANT leaps towards it! Lurgee, you can definitely do it!!! 05 Jan 2008 13:54:09 |

Yeah I agree, go for it Lurgee!!
And yes Angeldreams, not one but TWO kiwiwriters weddings this year! lol very exciting really, though some days it makes writing completely impossible - I think weddingbrain is something akin to babybrain. I am really looking forward to getting further into the year when we're all starting to submit etc, it's going to be so exciting! 05 Jan 2008 14:40:01 |

How is the new novel coming alone angeldreams? Are you finding it easy to get into?
How is everyone else doing on this challenge? I decided to hold off completing first draft of the latest nano so that I can get into editing and get the novel out there sooner, the more time I have to shop it around the better I am thinking. 15 Jan 2008 10:49:28 |

Haven't worked on this yet. I don't know whether to start something new or look at something I've done.
What publishers are others looking at, NZ or overseas? 16 Jan 2008 11:48:00

I think I'll look within NZ first and then overseas... would be nice to publish in this country first but I guess sometimes that's just not going to happen. As the story is based in the South Island and has kiwi themes though I'd probably have better luck in NZ markets (well, i think?).

If I offer Socnoc, a kiwi theme, it would be best with kiwi publishers.
I was talking to a lady in Whitcoulls before Christmas she said local people can't get enough of books on Southland, they sell out everything they have. So although I am an 'import' may be a good idea to work on. Would have to do a fair bit of research. 16 Jan 2008 15:44:13
