Time for roll call I think, how is everyone faring with this particular challenge? What stage are we at, what have been the biggest barriers to success for us so far, how confident are we feeling?
For me I am still editing, I got halfway through the novel with the first edit and then realized I really needed to change a whole lot to make it the best story it can be, so I am starting over and adding as I go. Am currently writing a fresh beginning for it which will set up all the changes to be made very nicely. Have started looking around at potential places to submit to, and had a list which then somehow got lost (my internet bookmarks all disappeared dangit), but I think I will leave off going through that all again until I am almost done with the edit. Feeling fairly good about the novel, I still really like the story, have had lots of great input from friends and family who have read it so know that I am on the right track with it. How about the rest of you? 08 Mar 2008 20:45:03 |

>_< Oh dear...... still barely starting? :P :P Yes yes, I'm insane, I know. I will continue to convince myself that I can catch up! And motivate myself to get back into writing (RL taking over lately)! I would like to have a publishABLE novel at least by the end of the year, even if I don't get it publishED. Hm....
Oh yes... WELL DONE on the progress with yours! Nearing submission, wow! 09 Mar 2008 00:02:48 |

Well, once the editing is done yeah, first time I have edited a novel though so it's interesting work.
Even having a publishable novel by the end of the year is a good goal, hope you manage to get some time and head space to do it :-) 09 Mar 2008 08:18:08 |

How is everyone faring with this particular challenge?
I think I'm faring well. I'm keeping to my schedule so far. :) What stage are we at? I'm at the very early stages of editing. I'm up to page 106 of 136 in my first read through. A long way to go yet. The story will need a lot of work to get it publishable. I'm thinking most of the first half will change dramatically at this stage. What have been the biggest barriers to success for us so far? I've been a little distracted with finishing editing my short story Life on Fire for submission. Also, I really couldn't remember how the story played out. The first two thirds of the story have been really lacklustre, uninspiring and hard to feel passionate about. I am liking what I have of the final third and I'm remembering lots of cool stuff I threw in there. I was thinking I might have to pick another story to prepare for submission but this one may have some hope yet. How confident are we feeling? Still pretty confident. Even if I have to toss Freeing the Flame into a drawer there's still plenty of the year left. I might have to compromise on doing other challenges because I suspect editing will take a long time yet! 09 Mar 2008 15:25:35

I feel really sad and pathetic. I'm the one that sujested this challege back in November and I havn't gotten very far at all! You guys are talking about editing your drafts when I don't even have a draft to start with. Life has just been so crazy for me lately, I went about two months without writing a single word. This summer I'm going away to work at a summer camp and I don't think I'll have much time to write... my hopes of publishing a book this year are pretty much shot. I'll keep pluging on and write my story but I really don't think it will get published. *sigh*
Good luck everyone, Jester 21 Mar 2008 00:20:57 |

Hang in there! you never know what might happen :-) There are still plenty of months left in the year and life happens - its a matter of finding a way to make writing part of your life I think, something which I am still mastering.
As it is my editing isn't getting very far. Am totally zombiefied most of the time at the moment and unable to focus the way I would like to. Another month or so and I should come right I think, at least that's what everyone is telling me! lol 21 Mar 2008 09:52:18 |

I feel a little of a cheat. My manuscript is sitting at the publisher, and is being read by the owner, and a few other readers to get a feel for whether it is suitable for the market. Here's hoping!
I still feel a little of a cheat on this one mostly because the biggest part of this challenge is getting a novel written. Then you have to get it to the publishers. Then they can take up to three months or so to get back to you ... that's a decent chunk of a year. I'm incredibly hard on myself, and living vicariously through cassie's living vicariously through my success so far on this one. If that makes sense. 27 Mar 2008 19:34:06 |

Well, obviously it does to me :-) I am so thrilled for you that it's being read as we... ah... type? Leave messages?
You're not a cheat at all, the whole point was to get something out there in the world and head towards the big goal of getting something published which you're totally doing. I can only hope that the news is excellent. And I'm really glad you've finally fessed up to where you're at on this or I would have had to do it for you ;-) I've already restrained myself so far! 27 Mar 2008 21:28:43 |

Heh you already know that I don't tend to get as excited as I should about writing achievements. I'm tentatively hoping that they accept it, because heck, I don't have another place to submit it to, and I don't feel like writing ANOTHER novel just yet ...

Well, just today I dug out my old SoCNoC from my drawer and thought, 'I would really like to fix this up'. And then I came on here (for the first time in ages *guilty blush*) and found this!
I don't think I'll aim for actually getting mine published, but to get it up to a publishable level would be fantastic. 29 Mar 2008 12:47:05
