So, I have a few books on my To Read list, such as Stein on Writing by Sol Stein, and Getting Into Character by Brandilyn Collins.

What are some writing aides/guides/books that you found compelling, inspiring, or life-changing?

I really enjoyed reading Stephen King's 'On Writing'. I haven't read a lot of writing books, and I have for the most part enjoyed his stories so it made sense to read it. Well, and he's made a lot of money out of writing lol he must be doing something right ;-)

I second Stephen King's 'On Writing'.

Strunk & White's, The Element of Style is a classic.

Eats, Shoots and Leaves is another good one and funny too.

Storyteller by Kate Wilhelm was a great one. I really recommend this.

I've bought some new ones myself, of which I've just read a few pages of: Plot & Structure, by James Scott Bell. It's very good and I've already started making notes about Seeking Queen Praedar and Freeing the Flame.

The New Zealand Writer's Handbook.
The Writers' Handbook.
The Book Writer's Handbook.
Becoming a Writer.
Writing for Pleasure and Profit.
Practical Tips for Writing.
Novel Writing.

Nothing outstanding in any of them, but always something useful in each.

I second Eats, Shoots and Leaves for fun as well as knowledge.

Thanks guys. I do have a growing list of writing books that I venture to read soon.

I do own Strunk & White's The Elements of Style, and, yes, it is a classic.

Has anyone ever read John Gardner's On Becoming a Novelist? I know that he also has a couple of writing books as well. I love the way that he writes. Every word that he uses is precise and conveys what he is trying to say.

I have to go with "No Plot? No Problem" by Chris Baty as being the most fun to read.

I own lots, but have only finished 2 others, all have been mentioned here. The Baty book is well worth reading.

Ooh yes! I second 'No Plot? No Problem!'. My very own copy should be arriving in the mail any day now, just in time to read for NaNo. :)

I've got an extensive library of books on writing (at least to me it is extensive) that I have collected AND read over the years. A comprehensive list can be found on my bookshelf at Goodreads

My book "The Mourning (The Awakening) is available on xlibris.com, target.com, barnes&noble.com, amazon.com, M&W books, Kroger, borderbooks.com
I wrote this 12 years ago.
But, if you've been listening to the Prophets, it's coming true.
This is a description:

It is The End! You have heard of "The End" haven´t you? It is here and it is Now! Beasts are everywhere! They feed on us and then leave our remains to rot. Families are torn apart, babies left behind. There is no sun, no water, no food. It is a rare occasion to see a stray dog or cat. People are running for the hills...collecting food, medicine, supplies. Some can´t run fast enough. There is acid rain...it will scorch your skin beyond your wildest imagination. The beasts, aliens, are here to feed and they are feeding. Mothers cry aloud for their children, their babies. The mentally ill are running loose and being snatched as they run. The wild look in their eyes are burnt in to the minds of those who are sane. The goverment is protecting their own. They have forsaken us! These beasts are out of control, there is so much food for them that they are in a frenzy... Disease spreads like wildfire...a cough, a runny nose, vomitting and peeling of the skin, then death. There is a stench to the earth and it is the smell of death. It is The End and you can not hide!
