A couple weeks ago I submitted my story Life on Fire to The Six Pack. It's a revision of the story I wrote for the Waitangi Weekend Word Wace last year. I already received confirmation of my submission and now I'm trying to forget about the fact that it's out there.

The 20 shortlisted stories will be announced mid-April. I'll keep you all posted!

Lol. No, I haven't heard anything yet. I think it's more around the 26th or so. Public voting opens mid-May.

Good luck! My story "Court of the Litterfey" is there as well. They reckon there were over 500 entries, eep!

Ooh! Good luck lysistrata! It's nice to know someone else whose work is in the slush pile with 499 others!

It says on the NZ book month website that they've sent 30 entries to shortlist judges to decide on the final ten. I presume I would've heard if my story was in that thirty, although I won't entirely give up hope till they announce the shortlisted ten

I've got my "no" letter too. :)

There is the BNZ Katherine Mansfield competition up next and the Sunday Star Times later in the year.

Yeah there are a few different comps around, so plenty of opportunities to submit to them, gotta keep at it :-)

I emailed the host first to see if they were only looking at lit work or if the judges would be open to genre work of a dark nature, namely Cthulhu. She answered honestly. I didn't submit it.

Yup. Again the focus is literary. A bit disappointing since the idea is to promote NZ writers and NZ writing. Presumably all NZ writers, not just those who write literary fiction. :/
