Hi everyone, just thought I'd start this off and say congratulations to everyone who has so far finished the first ever "Zing Thing".

Let us know here how you found it, your experience and what you learnt.

In which case, I'll go first.

I found that it's hard to write a short story like this. I also found this for the 7,500 word challenges as well as these 2k ones since you have to keep the story moving. You also can't go into 500 words of description since then you just have that and no story.

Anyway, I haven't edited mine (yet?) but thought I would post a link to an unedited version for all to see.

The Sword and the Saviour by Andrew Chilton

I certainly don't think it's any great piece of writing though I enjoyed doing it. Not too bothered about critique either but I may post an edited version to the critique forum at some undetermined future date.

I was looking forward to the zing thing, as my story was whimsical, and light after the doco style story I have been on lately, and the SocNococ one had a lot of reference dates and events I wanted to have correct.
I had the zing thing in my head, for some time, and just wanted to get it on paper. It was fun! :)

Goodie! something to read.

I found this hard as well, didn't really have too much of a plan and I really needed one!!
I haven't dared read it over yet, so no idea on the quality. I got into it after a little while and really enjoyed writing the last bit. The fact that it was a new genre definitely challenged me a bit.

A big congrats to all you Zing Thing winners. If you haven't finished or haven't edited gear up for The End Is Nigh.

I read your first scene, Andy. The first sentence made me laugh but the last paragraph captured a real moment. Well done. :)

Well, I failed my first challenge. Almost 1700 words on an unfinished story. I guess I'll throw it into the August "End" challenge for better or for worse. I'm still not into writing mentality.

Congrats to those who finished 2000 words of an edited piece.

Oh. what a pity, Mr Murph to get so close. You can only push yourself so far if the brain is not willing.
Give you something to do in August. :)

I really enjoyed this short challenge and now have a short story that could be fixed during the week and sent off to some poor magazine soon.
I love the story, find it funny and found editing less annoying then usual due to the short length. Its about the shortest story I have written since most end up with extra chapters. Yeah this one could be longer BUT I think it stands well on its own.
SO who else enjoyed it?

I really enjoyed the Zing Thing challenge. I looked forward to writing it even though I had no clear idea where it was going before I sat down and started typing just a vague idea about a different kind of detective story. It took on a life of its own, really.

As a challenge, ZT worked really well. It was short enough that I could complete it and was completely different from my normal stuff. Very enjoyable.

Yeah, I enjoyed it for the same reasons. (i) it was short, and (ii) it was something different.

I'll certainly be participating in the Zing Thing challenge again when it comes up next time. Actually, I think I've done all the challenges on KW so far :-)

Great story, lurgee, I enjoyed it, well written.
I've been mucking about trying to set up a blog like yours, to put on some short writing pieces, but not succeeding very well.

Takes two minutes to set up, and 1 minute of that is thinking up a clever name that will impress people. Not that anyone will ever look at your blog, as there are more blogs than there are people to look at them.

After the two minute set up, however, it takes you weeks to acclimatise to all blogger's little bugs and glitches.

Bleeeh, failed this one. I have a 2-word title XD

Lesson: 1.) Read and research genre before sitting there thinking a cleverly woven plot will come (it didn't), 2.) Do not sign up for challenges when you expect to be out all weekend. 3.) Plan!

But oh well. Congrats on everyone else! :)

Never mind angeldreams, let's just say your username was appropriate for the occasion. :)
I see Kerryn hasn't come up with a title yet. :)
I have been reading some of the zing thing stories of others, and they are amazing. I'm all for having more of these challenges.

Andy, I read your story and this line seriously gave me the chills: "The bloodied blade came through his back and the pain in his heart left him forever."

Ha, yep, that's right, I'm that cold and callous.

I've obviously read mine and I have also read cassie's and lurgee's. Now, I'm wondering if there are any more out there people would like to share with us all.

Ah gowan! :-)
