2000 Words

2000 words. To untrained ears, this sounds like a lot, but to the seasoned SoCNoC and Nanowrimo participants, it's a drop in the bucket... right?
Throw in that it's meant to be done in two and half days and that one of the days is usually put aside for editing, and you've got yourself a challenge. Then, add in that it's got to be done in a completely different genre and a few people are getting nervous, even the multi-novel, multi-challenge veterans.
Hopefully, by now, all our regular participants will have an idea of how they will attack this. New challengers might spend more time working out exactly how they are going to write it. Do you just sit down and write? Do you plan it all in excruciating detail and know all the twists and turns, all the contents of every closet? Do you write it in your head and then do it all in one sitting? Are you an "edit as you go" writer?
As much as I would love to tell you what kind of writer you are, you just have to try it for yourself. Believe it or not, trying out all the different writing methods is all part of the fun, and certainly part of the learning experience. Keep track of your best writing days and find out what works best for you. Not everyone can write the same way. Assuming that what works for you will work for everyone is like assuming that your glasses prescription will work for everyone.
Not knowing your writing style is an exciting place to be. There is so much to explore and so much fun to be had trying all the different tips you can pick up in about a million writing books. One day, you'll stumble across that writing exercise that really speaks to you and a little flash will go off in your head. You will be hooked and you will be on the path to better writing. Have fun and share your experiences.
