KIWI WRITERS RISE TO THE CHALLENGE
A 50,000 word, 175 page novel in 30 days
WELLINGTON - July 5, 2007
60 participants from around New Zealand and overseas took up the Southern Cross Novel Challenge (SoCNoC) to write 50,000 words in the 30 days of June.
Kiwi Writers want to thank all the competitors for an excellent month of writing and congratulate the 16 winners. The first winner blazed across the finish line on the 16th of June and the last limped over with a minute to spare at midnight on the 30th. The 36 participants who recorded word counts nearly wrote a collective 1 million words.
Kiwi Writers set out to inspire people to write and that's exactly what happened through SoCNoC. A 63 year old woman from Invercargill crossed the finish line writing her very first novel and is doing it all again in July. A young mother in New Plymouth finished her second novel and an evolutionary scientist from Palmerston North put her expertise to use when writing her novel.
Kiwi Writers will be adding more functionality to the site and there is already a flurry of ideas for improvements, up-and-coming challenges and the 2008 Southern Cross Novel Challenge.
