Calm Before the Storm

April has been a quiet montharound Kiwi Writers but already we are kicking into gear for our signature event: the Southern Cross Novel Challenge (SoCNoC, pronounced“sock nock”).

April saw most Kiwi Writers taking a rest from the madness of challenges but some were looking for a challenge with a difference. Script Frenzy, hosted by The Office of Letters and Light who bring us NaNoWriMo each year,ran for the first time in April and several Kiwi Writer members signed up to write 100 pages of script in 30 days. A script, whether a screenplay for TV or feature film, a short film or a stage play, is a very different medium to the novel, novelette or short story.Congratulations to those who dove into something new and an extra round of applause to manchester who has the shiny winners banner.

The admin team here at Kiwi Writers met recently to begin preparations for the Southern Cross Novel Challenge 2008. Sign ups have opened and already we have 10 participants. Whispers of ideas and preparation are being discussed in the SoCNoC forum. You can get a taste for what's in store by checking out all the great stuff from SoCNoC 2007 and if you're wanting to start planning we have all the preparation challenges we've held over the last year in one great place.

Throughout May we'll have more great stuff coming out as we gear up for the launch of SoCNoC 2008 on June 1st. A new preparation challenge, information about how you can help promote SoCNoC and Kiwi Writers, our fantastic member who will be bringing us the pep talks through June, and much more will be coming your way.

Kiwi Writers is stepping out into the world and now has its own Twitter Page and Facebook Group for SoCNoC. Kiwi Writer tweets will be about what's happening behind the scenes as well as notification of the latest news and challenges. The Facebook group is a great place to show your support for SoCNoC, share it with your Facebook friends and chat with other participants.
